Trekking Pu Luong Nature Reserve 6 Days

The Pu Luong is blessed with rich forest, limestone panaromas, magnificent rice terraces and breathtaking scenery. It is an area of outstanding beauty, cultural interest and high biodiversity value stretching from Mai Chau in the North West to Cuc Phuong National Park.

Destinations: Hanoi – Mai Chau – Pu Luong – Kho Muong – Cao Hoong – Cao – Canh Nang Town – Mai Chau – Nanoi

Day 1: Hanoi - Mai Chau - Hang Kia Village (Lunch, Dinner, Guide) - 3 hours trek

The drive to Mai Chau takes about 3.5 hours, but the pleasing scenery with rice paddies and green mountains more than compensates. A short break along the way is included.

On arrival at Mai Chau, you will be welcomed by the friendly team of local Thai people at the Mai Chau Lodge for lunch and an opportunity to leave unnecessary luggage before driving to the Hang Kia Village. Hang Kia, located 1,000m above the sea level, is inhabited by the H’mong ethnic minority community. The mountain air and a cool breeze make a two hour walk a positive joy as you stride through the verdant foliage peppered with fruit trees, animals and wildlife.

The evening offers local culinary delights coupled with plenty of the locally brewed rice wine followed by a night in a family stilt-house.

Day 2: Hang village – Kho Muong village (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Guide) - 6 hours trek and slightly uphill, rock path    

After breakfast in the Thai local and then you will have 2 choices. The first, you may want to walk on a rocky path running through jungle. It will be a big adventure. The second, you will trek to Eo Ken village and enjoy the beauty of Pu Luong Nature Reserve. You will then have luch cooked by the Thai.

In the afternoon, you continue trekking to Kho Muong village where the Muong ethnic minority lives in. You will spend the night in a stilt-house.

Day 3: Kho Muong village – Cao Hoong village (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Guide)  - 6 hours trek and light climbing  

Today, you will have a full day trek as we climb to the Pu Luong range. En-route you will pass through a number of small hamlets and minority villages. After 3 hr of light ascent we will we will descend to the village of Cao Hoong, a village of Thai ethnic minority people, where we spend the night at home stay in Cao Hoong village.

Day 4: Cao Hoong village – Cao Village (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Guide)     - 5 -6 hours trek and climbing

After breakfast, the guide will take you trekking from uphill and downhill through forest, rice terraces and scenic villages. You also see local people live in their own way that the usual way of living, fashion (you see in city life, modern..) do not affect as and take place. Today, lunch and dinner will be served in a Thai house. You will spend the night in Cao Village.

Day 5: Cao village – Canh Nang town – Mai Chau (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Guide) - 4 – 5 hours trek

After breakfast, you will trek toward Ma River. The trek is quite gentle since you descend a wide-open valley. After 2 hrs trek you will reach Pho Doan Town where you will visit to the local market. Following you will trek Ma River, on the way, you will see nice view of river, paddies and water wheel. After that, you will be picked up and transferred to Mai Chau for a late lunch. The rest of the day will be free at your leisure or you can wander around the village. You will stay overnight at home stay in Pom Coong village.

Day 6: Mai Chau - Hanoi (Breakfast, Lunch, Guide)    

After breakfast, you can wander around the houses to see the daily life of local people. They specialise in weaving brocade products, and are happy to show visitors their skills. The village is operated as a community co-operative, set up by the people themselves.  In the afternoon, you’ll return to Hanoi for overnight accommodation.
