During this Vietnam homestay, you’ll journey across the emerald rice paddies and staggering mountain passes of the peaceful Mai Hich valley into traditional Vietnam. You’ll see the day-to-day lifestyle of the locals as you spend a night in an authentic Vietnamese stilted house. You’ll be the guests of a Mai Hich village family, who will lavish hospitality and tasty typical cuisine on you.
Our traditional Vietnam homestay is an excellent alternative to Sapa if you’re eager to experience hill tribe culture but a little short on time. Unlike Sapa, the village of Mai Hich is very accessible from Hanoi and still offers a unique glimpse into traditional ways of life.
Day 1: Hanoi - Mai Chau - Mai Hich (Lunch, Dinner, Guide)
After breakfast, you’ll be met our tour guide and depart for Mai Hich village, Mai Chau Province. On the way, you’ll enjoy the ride through the paddy fields of the Old Doai village and street-side village markets with stop en-route at Thung Khe Pass to observe the landscape of the valleys and hills. Upon arriving at the village, you’ll be warmly welcome by the village hosts in traditional dresses with cold drinks at Minh Tho Homestay. Lunch with forest specialties and fresh ingredients will be served by local people.
In the afternoon, you’ll have a ride or walk around the villages to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding nature and rural activities in action, including houses-on-stilt, fish ponds, low terrace paddy fields. If you wish, you can try some of the daily farming routines of local farmers. You’ll also call at a traditional weaving cooperative before return to your homestay for a dinner with Thai dance and taste some local alcoholic speciality afterwards. Your overnight accommodation will be at stilt house.
Located 13km southwest of Mai Chau district centre, Mai Hich shares the borders with two communes of Quan Hoa district and Thanh Hoa province. The nature and people of Mai Hich will help you to de-stress yourself as you are lured into the magnificence of primary forests and the tranquility of palm hills, while immersing yourself the music and dance of local youth artists! You will also have an once-in-a-life-time opportunity to experience the feelings and emotions of Quang Dung the poet when he wrote Tay Tien in Mai which while rafting along Xia River.
Day 2: Mai Hich - Hanoi (Breakfast, Lunch, Guide)
Waking up to the fresh and tranquil morning of northwest mountainous area, you’ll then have a buffet breakfast in setting of local Thai market. This day can be arranged with one of the below options:
Option 1: Mai Hich Rafting (Medium adventure):
After breakfast, you’ll take a walk through the paddy fields and bamboo forest then enjoy the daily life of the local community before try to do a rafting adventure along Xia River. Return to your homestay and depart to Lac Village where a traditional craft centre operated by the physically challenged artists. Lunch will be at Quan Hang homestay in Lac Village. In the afternoon, you’ll return to your own hotel in Hanoi for an overnight accommodation.
Option 2: Mai Hich Trekking (≈ 15 km)
After breakfast, you’ll have a trekking or biking from Mai Hich to Lac Village through the bamboo forests, local brick factory, Thai, Mai Ha and Chieng Chau villages. Lunch will be at Quan Hang homestay in Lac village. In the afternoon, you’ll return to Hanoi for your overnight accommodation.
