Day 1: Hanoi - Ha Giang (Lunch, Dinner, Guide)
After breakfast, you’ll drive to Ha Giang, the northernmost province of Vietnam. You’ll stop en-route at Tuyen Quang to visit the remains of the 15th century Mac Dynasty Citadel and a market nearby. After lunch at a local restaurant, you’ll continue driving on a winding single lane road through strikingly mountainous scenery.
Check in home stay in a Tay minority village. The rest of the day is to wander around for sightseeing and local interaction. You will have dinner and stay overnight in local house. Accommodation tonight is based on family basis with private mattress, blanket and mosquito net are provided.
Day 2: Ha Giang - Dong Van (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Guide)
Today you will take a fantastic drive with lots of photos stops along the meandering mountain road to Dong Van located along the Chinese border.
Dong Van Karst Pleateau with up to 80 percent of its area covered by limestone, with the center is Dong Van Town, was designated by UNESCO as one of 77 geoparks in the World. This is home to 17 ethnic groups including Kinh, Hoa, Lo Lo, Tai, Nung, Chinese Han, Dzao … These people of Dong Van have led their life on the rock for generations and preserve very well their strong traditions and identities.
So far, this land has not yet seen the mass tourism and still keeps it pure rhythm as it has been for years. Dong Van is visited by adventure travelers and photographers who yearn for adventure experiences and exotic landscape.
You will visit to Twin Mountain in Quan Ba, Pho Bang – the little town of Chinese minority with many ancient houses. These traditional houses are made from clay and are featured with distinctive ‘yin and yang’ tile roofs. Pho Bang used to be “the capital of opium” decades ago and now just like a sleeping child in amongst the mountains. You will then continue to Sa Phin valley where you will visit to Nha Vuong. This fortress-liked ‘Palace’ belonged to the self-appointed King of the Hmong tribe who ruled the northern mountains around Dong Van in the old time. The palace attracts keen interest from architecturally minded visitors due to its mixed style of European and Chinese architecture. (There is a weekly market here every fourth or fifth day depending on the lunar calendar).
After that, you will drive up further to Lung Cu, the mount on the most northern tip of Vietnam. Enjoy the great Mountain View from the top of Lung Cu Flag tower and then visit to a village of the Lo Lo hill tribe to discover more on their unique culture and customs (there is a weekly market held on Fridays)
You will then get to Dong Van town in the late afternoon. Check in hotel and the remainder of the day is free to wander around the lovely laidback mountain town.
Day 3: Dong Van - Meo Vac - Yen Minh (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Guide)
After breakfast, you will leave Dong Van for another impressive drive through Meo Vac to Yen Minh.
The trip passes through Ma Pi Leng, one of the King Passes in Vietnam and is also known as ‘Heaven’s Gate Pass’ as it gives the feeling of touching the sky. The drive skirts the Chinese border through a deep valley. As you wind along the narrow roads you’ll be surrounded by spectacular valleys and towering perpendicular walls of rock. Stop as often as you like to take photos and enjoy the captivating views.
You will take a visit to fabulous Meo Vac Market, where local come from surrounding villages to buy and sell fresh produce as well as dry goods. On Sunday the market is particularly busy and is considered as one of the most colorful hill tribe markets in this remote region of Vietnam. Apart from shops with plenty of beautiful local handicrafts, there’s also a livestock market where the locals trade horses, cattle, pigs, dogs and so on.
You will have lunch in Meo Vac and continue with dramatic drive downhill to Yen Minh then check in hotel in the mid afternoon and the rest of the day is free to explore this laidback mountain town.
Day 4: Yen Minh - Hoang Su Phi (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Guide)
From Yen Minh you will drive down to Ha Giang and continue to Hoang Su Phi. The drive today is another marvelous experience with sightseeing and photographic chances along the way. Hoang Su Phi is another mountain district of Ha Giang province and is famous with hill tribe culture and rice terrace fields that considered some of the most beautiful landscape in the country.
You will see the difference of the topography of Hoang Su Phi area with the places you have visited. The different beauty of the area will enrich your adventure. Check in an eco-lodge and enjoy the rest of the day to relax in a very peaceful atmosphere. You will spend the night in Hoang Su Phi.
Day 5: Hoang Su Phi Trekking (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Guide)
Today, you will spend the whole day for trekking to visit the hill tribe villages of Tay, Black Dao and Red Dao people. Along the hike you can see how marvelous the rice terraces are. After that, you will come back to the lodge around 4:00 PM for some traditional treatments (massage and herbal bath are optional). You will spend the second night in the lodge.
Day 6: Hoang Su Phi – Hanoi (Breakfast, Lunch, Guide)
Today, you will have a whole day drive back to Hanoi with stops for coffee and lunch on the way. Arrive in Hanoi about 4 PM. Trip ends!
