Your cycling adventure through Northern Vietnam begins in Hanoi with a transfer to That Khe. From here, you will jump on our bikes for a journey along the twisting mountain roads through lush tropical rainforest and villages to the town of Cao Bang. You will continue on your cycling tour of Northern Vietnam with a visit to Ban Gioc Waterfall, one of the most scenic areas in Vietnam. You will then continue your tour by cycling from Quang Uyen, following the Chinese border and looping back along country roads to Quang Uyen before transferring to the hotel in Cao Bang.
Next, you will transfer to Nui Pia Nature Reserve and cycle from here, through mountain scenery and along the course of the Ha Hiew River to Ba Be Lake. You will cycle around the lake to the village of Bo Lu where you spend the night in a comfortable village homestay overlooking the water’s edge. Ba Be is one of the oldest parks in Vietnam with a semi tropical monsoon rainforest and contains the largest freshwater lake in the country. The area is home to a variety of minorities including the Tay, Red Dao, Coin Dao and White H’mong.
Witness the local way of life in this region as you take a longtail boat cruise across the lake. See locals paddling in dugout canoes and fishing with wide nets as you make your way down the Nang River to the town of Ban Lam. From here it’s a quiet ride along country roads toward Vinh Loc where you will stay for the night at the project site of the Green Vietnam Foundation. The following day from the lodge, you will finish our cycling tour of Vietnam by riding south toward Vu Linh, stopping for lunch and taking a walk in the surrounding hills. There are options to take a boat out onto the lake here or cycle an extra 25km around the lake itself. On the final day we transfer back to Hanoi.
Destinations: Hanoi- Cao bang- Ban Gioc – Cao Bang – Ba Be- Vinh Loc – Vu Linh – Yen Bai – Hanoi
Day 1: Hanoi – Cao bang (Lunch, Dinner, Guide) - (Ride up to 50km)
At 0800, you will depart for the 3-hour drive to Lang Son City; if time permits, visit the towns bustling market. From here it’s a two-hour drive to That Khe on the road to Cao Bang. After lunch, you will start cycling from That Khe as the road weaves and twists through the mountains. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of forested mountain ranges, lush fertile valleys and traditional minority villages. You will arrive in Cao Bang in the late afternoon, if you have spare time cycle around the town. You will spend the night in Cao Bang.
Day 2: Cao Bang – Ban Gioc – Cao Bang (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Guide) (Ride up to 100km)
After breakfast, you will depart for Ban Gioc Waterfall. You will see perhaps some of the most beautiful scenery in Vietnam. Ban Gioc is one of the biggest and possibly the most impressive waterfalls in the country. If you wish take a swim in the cool emerald waters, see China on the other side of the riverbank and simply enjoy the pleasant surroundings.
A transfer will be required to Quang Uyen. From here, you will cycle to Trung Khanh and then onto the border with China to see the famous waterfalls. Loop back on very remote country roads toward Quang Uyen and then transfer back to your hotel in Cao Bang. A long way but very rewarding day. You will spend the day in Cao Bang.
Day 3: Cao bang – Ba Be (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Guide) - (Ride up to 100km)
You will depart early from Cao Bang with a 1 hour transfer on route 34 to Tinh Tuc and the Nui Pia Nature Reserve. The road from the Reserve is small and very quiet with several manageable climbs and sweeping views across the mountains. After lunch en-route, you will continue on toward Cho Ra along the Ha Hiew River and then cycle the final 15km to Ba Be Lake. You will cycle the final stretch through a forest and around the lake to the village of Bo Lu. You will spend the night in a comfortable village homestay overlooking the water. You will spend the night in Ba Be Lake.
Ba Be National Park is one of the oldest parks in Vietnam with stunning mountain scenery covered by semi tropical monsoon rainforest and claims the largest natural fresh water lake in the country. The area is home to a variety of minorities including the Tay, Red Dao, Coin Dao and White H’mong.
Day 4: Ba Be – Vinh Loc (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Guide) - (Ride up to 65km)
After breakfast, you will cycle a short distance to the pier where you will board a long tail boat for a cruise across the lake. You will notice the local people paddling dugout canoes and fishing with wide nets. From the lake, you will then continue down the Nang River to the town of Ban Lam where you will disembark and start cycling south on a quiet scenic road toward Na Hang and then south to Vinh Loc.
Tonight you will overnight at the project site of the Green Vietnam Foundation. This organization has developed project dedicated to replanting forests across the country and helping poor farmers develop better farming techniques especially through fruit farming. You will have an opportunity to visit the farm and learn about some of their success stories. Overnight near Vinh Loc
Day 5: Vinh Loc – Vu Linh (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Guide) - (Ride up to 50km)
After breakfast, you will ride directly from the lodge and ride south toward Vu Linh. You will arrive at La Vie Vu Linh for lunch. In the afternoon is free to explore the area, take a walk into the surrounding hills, head out on the lake for some traditional fishing, or just relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the lake. For those who wish to keep riding there is an extra 25km along the lake front. You will spend the night in Vu Linh.
Day 6: Yen Bai – Hanoi (Breafast, Lunch, Guide)
After breakfast, you will enjoy a leisurely morning at Vu Linh before the 4 hour transfer back to Hanoi.
