Water Puppet Tours

With its numerous national parks, white sand beaches, colourful villages, pagodas and ancient monuments, forests and islands, Vietnam is a land of often surprising beauty, offering cultural depth and history, increasingly combined with tourism-friendly areas offering all the facilities a modern traveller could wish for.

Vietnam’s people are its greatest asset: gregarious, friendly and eager to meet visitors. In the bustling cities, the often chaotic streets contrast ox carts with limousines, ancient rituals with sophisticated technology, and are ruled by the ubiquitous moped.

Our strength is in translating these opportunities into detailed, practical itineraries. We do luxury travel and event planning, as well as a wide range of beach, family, honeymoon, adventure, golf, veteran and cultural tours.

There is no better way to experience a destination than through the perspective of the local people. At Water Puppet Tours, this key element of local insight drives every step of our process of tour design and delivery. We provide tailor-made tours individually crafted for each client, achieving this by emphasizing the direct working relationship between the client and the tour designer and operator.

Cuc Phuong Bird Watching 4 Days

Cuc Phuong is home to a wealth of beautiful tropical birds, many of them endemic to Vietnam and Indochina. Some of the 308 species of rare birds that you might encounter are the Silver Pheasant, Red-collared Woodpecker, Brown Hornbill, Bar-bellied Pitta and so on. Cuc Phuong is quickly becoming a must-see destination for scientists and birdwatchers alike. The best time for bird-watching is early in the morning or in the late afternoon.

Day 1: Hanoi - Cuc Phuong National Park (Lunch, Dinner, Guide)

A morning drive takes you to the Cuc Phuong National Park. After lunch, you’ll be able to wander through a subtropical forest, rich in flora and fauna with thousand-year-old trees and dripping vines, visiting the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre. You’ll spend the night in the National Park Guesthouse.

The Endangered Primate Rescue Centre is a temporary home for many gibbons and langurs that have been injured, or have been orphaned by poachers. Among them are two of the rarest species in the world, Delacourt’s Langur, confined to two or three spots in North Vietnam, and the elegant Cat Ba Golden Langur, now reduced to a colony of around 50 individuals in Cat Ba Island National Park. Strenuous efforts are being made to conserve both species. When those in the rescue centre have regained their strength, a carefully staged programme will release them into the wild.

You may consider an optional ‘night spotting mini-safari' (if weather permits). In the late evening, you'd set off into the primary forest, an opportunity to see the park's nocturnal dwellers: the Black Giant Squirrel, the Indian flying Squirrel, Samba deer, the Slow Loris and several other small carnivores.

Day 2: Cuc Phuong National Park - Bird watching (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Guide)

The first national park to be established in Vietnam, Cuc Phuong is an area of limestone hills covered with large tracts of primeval rainforest. The fauna of Cuc Phuong National Park is also very rich. 659 vertebrate animal species have been identified within the park, including 66 species of fishes, 67 species of reptiles, 43 species of amphibians, 336 species of birds and 135 species of mammals. There are also 1899 species and forms of invertebrate animals, belonging to 169 families, 33 orders, 6 classes and 3 phyla. You will have a full day walking inside the national park learning about the rich ecosystem here.  You will surely be ready for a restful overnight stay in the park lodgings.

Day 3: Cuc Phuong National Park - Bird watching (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Guide)

You will have a full day’s birding on the trails of Cuc Phuong. The birding is good at Cuc Phuong, with over 300 species recorded in the park. Endangered mammals such as the Indochinese Tiger, the Clouded Leopard and the rare Delacour Langur also inhabit the forests of Cuc Phuong, though they are seldom seen. Other possible bird species include the Spot-bellied Eagle-Owl, the Ruddy Kingfisher, the Silver-breasted Broadbill and the White-tailed Flycatcher.  You will again stay overnight at Cuc Phuong National Park.

Day 4: Cuc Phuong – Hoa Lu - Van Long Natural Reservation - Hanoi (Breakfast, Lunch, Guide)

In the morning, you’ll be picked up to travel to Hoa Lu – the former capital of Vietnam, about a two-hour drive from Hanoi. On arrival, you’ll visit two temples, one dedicated to Emperor Dinh and the other in memory of Emperor Le, followed by a brief visit to the remains of the Old Palace.

After lunch, you’ll be picked up to travel to Van Long. On arrival, you’ll board a small sampan for a ride in a peaceful valley among limestone ‘karst’ hills of Van Long Nature Reserve. In the late afternoon, you’ll return to Hanoi for overnight accommodation.
